This month, our Buchheit Buddy event will show you how to create your very own Valentine’s Day Mailbox. Take it to school with you on Valentine’s Day to make it easy for your friends to give you their Valentines.

Supplies

  • 12” balloons
  • Hot glue gun
  • 1/8” dowel rods (You’ll need 1-2 depending on how high you’d like your balloon – ours was about 6” high.)
  • 2.5-gallon bucket (We didn’t take the handle off of ours so we could reuse the bucket.)
  • Burlap (We used our burlap from the Bee Keeping section of the store. You can also look in the Sporting Goods Department.)
  • Tape
  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Sheet of paper
  • Twine (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut burlap into two 1-2 inch strips.
  1. Put some hot glue around the bucket sticking the burlap as you go. Be careful, as hot glue can squish through the burlap.
We pulled the bottom string of the burlap to give it more of a fringed look and cut off any excess fly away strings.
  1. Cut 1/8″ dowel rods into three 6″ sections (or larger if you want a taller balloon).
  1. Glue a small section at the top of the bucket and stick on dowel rod. Repeat three times.
  1. Test out your lungs and blow up that balloon! Tie the balloon off.
  1. Get some tape ready.
  1. Place the balloon inside the dowel rods and tape each rod to the balloon.
  1. Fold a piece of paper in half and cut a half heart shape.
A question mark shape creates the perfect heart.
  1. Wrap some tape, sticky side out, on your finger to create a circle and place it on the back of your paper for a cute name tag.
  2. Lastly, get creative! Draw hearts, smiley faces, puppy dogs, cats. Whatever you want to make your mailbox your own.

Don’t forget to take pictures of your Valentine’s Day Mailbox masterpiece and sent it into the Photo Barn! We can’t wait to show off your creativity.
