National Agriculture Week is March 19th-25th and National Ag Day is celebrated on March 21st. This week recognizes and celebrates the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.
The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:
- Understand how food and fiber products are produced.
- Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.
- Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant, and affordable products.
Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use, and wear daily. Too few people truly understand this contribution. By building awareness, the Agriculture Council of America is encouraging young people to consider career opportunities in agriculture. Today, each American farmer feeds more than 144 people, a dramatic increase from the 25 people in the 1960’s. As the world population soars, there is an even greater demand for the food and fiber produced in the United States. Agriculture is the nation’s #1 export and is vitally important in sustaining a healthy economy. And it’s not just the farmer who makes our food possible. The entire agriculture industry, all the way to grocery stores, are vital links in a chain that brings food to every citizen and millions of people abroad. It is easy to take agriculture for granted in America since our food is readily accessible and safe. We are unbelievably fortunate for this, but it does not mean that we do not have an obligation to recognize how it is made possible.
American agriculture is the foundation of our country. It is the backbone of a healthy and prosperous nation that is made possible by the hard work of America’s farms and farm families. Buchheit is proud to celebrate the nutritious and plentiful contributions of our country’s farms on National Agriculture Day. On this day, it is a good time to reflect and be grateful for American agriculture!
