Do you ever have sticker shock at the price asked for clothing?  I go into apoplexy sometimes when I look at the price tag. Really?! is this garment made with threads of gold or silver? Then I remember what happened the few times I gave in and purchased items from a big box store. It often fell apart or tore at the seams that were not sewn correctly or got pills after two washes. It is worth the investment only if you are buying quality.

I taught a free seminar at all the Buchheit stores on the Thrifty Living. In that class I discuss the pros and cons of buying the best that you can afford. This principle works across the board, buy the best and if it really is the best, it will last longer and work better.

Here is Steven in his Carhartt bibs. He was working outside but he could take off the Carhartt jacket and still stay warm while working in the cool basement wearing just the bibs.

Carhartt can be expensive but I buy it exclusively for my working men as nothing lasts longer and keeps them warmer in the depth of winter. My men especially like the bib overalls that allow you to strip off the heavy Carhartt coat or jacket while keeping your core warm.  Here is Jim’s bibs that he took off last night after a day in the wind and cold.  I mention the wind because Carhartts are made with real gussets and heavy metal zippers that are covered to prevent the wind from cutting though.  I choose to show you photos of the pair of bibs that Jim is presently wearing as they are over 10 years old.  That is quality! When you average that out, it was a great investment.

In summer, I like to wear the short sleeve shirt that wicks the moisture away from your body.  Jim wears the short sleeve shirts all year long, keeping the new ones for “going out wear”.

When Buchheit has a BUCKET Sale is when I like to pick up a shirt or two for Jim.  Anything in the bucket is 10 or 15 percent off (depending upon the time) so that’s a great time to stock up on Carhartt items. Make plans this weekend, Jan. 20-21, 2018 to stock up on the quality items at Buchheit for their 15% OFF BUCH-IT Sale. I just might see you there!

The short sleeve work shirt is Jim’s go-to shirt for a causal dress shirt.

Here he is with all three of his sons, Chris, the oldest has lost well over 100 pounds but we have not gotten together to make a new family photo but when we do, Jim will wear a Carhartt shirt.

When they are stained or fading, then they become work-shirts.  I purchased half a dozen shirts at a sale at another farm store thinking that what I would save in cost would make up for any lack in quality but I was sorely mistaken.  Every last shirt spilt the seam under the arm due to poor construction.  The material was so cheap that they tore easily and before I knew it they were all turned into rags.  When will I learn?

I researched the Carhartt Company and loved how their work-gear made its name in the oil fields of Alaska so it can take the weather in our area easily.  After well over 10 years of use, it may be time to replace Jim’s bibs and yes, I will head over to Buchheit for their extensive selection that will meet every need of my hard-working men.  Hope this posting is helpful.  Be blessed!  Anne May
