Explore the possibilities of a simpler life by bringing your children or grandchildren to Buchheit! Our free Buchheit Buddy youth workshops are a great way to encourage confidence and learning with your kids. Children ages 5 – 12 will have fun with hands-on learning experiences monthly.

Here is a past Buchheit Buddy project you can do at home!

Supplies Needed:
10-Buchheit paint paddles, 5-Rubberbands, 1 -One-Inch PVC Cap, and 1-Square of Velcro

Step 1:
Stack 8 paint sticks together. Rubberband both ends.

Step 2:
Stack 2 paint sticks together. Rubberband only one end.

Step 3:
Separate the 2 paint sticks and place the stack of 8 between them.

Step 4:
Wrap 2 rubber bands around all of the paint sticks to hold the catapult together. One from each direction, making an X in the center.

Step 5:
Attach the PVC cap to the end of the catapult using the Velcro square. This will be your launching platform.

Step 6:
Push down on the top of the catapult and release to launch an object from the cap.

Try one of these experiments with your simple catapult:

  • Launch an object from the catapult multiple times & measure how far it goes each time.
  • Launch different objects from the catapult & measure how far each one travels.
  • Compare catapults. Build more than one catapult (same or different design).
  • Launch the same object from each catapult & measure how far it travels.
