Who knew? I am seriously in love with this outstanding recipe I found on the Internet. I am the one always talking about how cookbooks are better, but sometimes, the web comes up with a winner!
Take this combination of ingredients that makes no sense to any logical cook. Disclaimer: this should not taste this fantastic, and it should take three times as long to make anything that is so delicious!
The best part is how kid friendly it is! I can’t wait to bake these with my nieces and nephews. Let’s make a happy memory. Are you ready?
This is not a new recipe, but it will be added to my favorites when I want to indulge my loved ones. Be warned: NOT diet friendly or healthy, just delicious!
INGREDIENTS:
- One can crescent rolls
- One Granny Smith (or another tart apple)
- One stick of butter (no margarine!)
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon or to taste (I always use plenty)
- 6 oz. Mountain Dew (that’s right just stay with me – may use 7-Up as a substitute)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter your baking dish or cast iron skillet.
- Peel, core and cut the apple into wedges or dice.
- Unwrap crescent rolls and roll up one apple wedge in each triangle. Arrange in your skillet or dish.
- In a microwave-safe mixing bowl, melt the butter.
- Add brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla. Mix well.
- Spoon mixture over the apple dumplings and clean out the bowl with a spatula.
- Pour Mountain Dew around, but not over, the dumplings.
- Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes, or until they become golden brown.
This sweet treat is excellent right out of the oven with ice cream! The tart soda prevents the butter/sugar mixture from becoming too overpowering so don’t skip it!
This is perfect for any gathering or potluck. It’s easy to double, but I usually make just enough for my boys. Hope you try this soon! Be blessed! Have fun!
